- We now know about some suggestive e-mails, some explicit instant messages, a long history of close contact with the Page program (including one alleged instance of showing up drunk at the Page residence) – so question One is, did Foley actually have sex with any of these pages or was he just chasing wild geese?
- How many other elected Republicans – because you know there must be more – are hiding their sexual orientation, and more importantly, how many of those have deeper, darker secrets like Foley’s?
- Might the Democrats suffer a backfire if any of their own share a similar dark secret?
Ok, that last one has been asked. But I’m curious to see how this plays out.
UPDATE: Looks like question number two has been asked, at least indirectly:
The problem is that being in the closet makes you vulnerable, and forces you underground into an environment where repression makes excess attractive and exposure can turn pecadillos into a career-ending scandal. Unable to seek normal, public social outlets for their sexuality, these repressed individuals look for satisfaction in the office or with those they can control and manipulate. The fact they are living secret lives makes them more likely to express their homosexuality in the most immoral and exploitative ways.
