Better Than The Cure
Having a toddler in day care is like running Windows 98 without a firewall - you’re guaranteed to catch a nasty bug, one that lasts long, totally shuts your system down, and recurs every few months or so.
I’ve pretty much been sick since August.
Now comes word that my efforts to relieve my symptoms may be making the problem worse.
Recent studies in the US have found that cough syrup - usually containing the cough suppressant dextromethorphan and the expectorant guaifenesin - works no better than sugar water.
Great. At seven bucks for a 14-ounce bottle of cough syrup, I’m paying 64 bucks a gallon for something that does me no more good - probably less - than sugar water.
I could buy almost a whole barrel of oil for that kind of coin. At least I can use that to drive myself to the hospital when the pneumonia kicks in.
