Bayh is Latest Dem to Drop 2008 White House Bid

Sen. Bayh has dropped out of the 2008 Presidential race. He’s not alone:

Bayh is the third Democrat to pass on a presidential bid in recent months. Former Virginia governor Mark R. Warner announced this fall that he would not run for national office. Sen. Russell Feingold (Wis.) took his name out of contention shortly after the midterm elections.

To me, this seems to be the big story of 2008 - not who’s in, but who’s out, and why. So far, we haven’t heard a really good reason why all these potentially viable Democrat candidates have opted out so early. Do they have skeletons in the closet? Are they being pushed out or bought out? Are we seriously looking at a 2008 Dm field that includes only Hillary and a bunch of not really serious contenders like Edwards, Obama, Gore, and Kerry?
