I went off to mail my tax forms around 8:00 p.m. this evening. I figured that the local post office would have quite a line, so I brought my fully charged iPod with me. (No, I didn't expect to wait 10 hours.)

This particular location stays open until 9:00 pm. on weeknights. When I arrived, the line was shorter than usual for the after-hours certified mail crowd. Inside the doorway, a greeter kindly pointed me to the certified mail forms - all with pre-printed address labels for federal and state agencies. I needed only to fill in my own address. By the time I had finished, a spot at the counter was open for me. A few seconds to ring up the transaction, and I was out the door.

I got home at 8:20 p.m. I didn't have time to listen to a full song in that line.

So to the Postmaster for Arlington's North Station in 22207, and everyone who works there, pat yourself on the back for a job well-done. I wish more businesses conducted themselves that way.
